This is the third generation of the Kone Coffee Filter. It is a reusable filter designed to be used with the Chemex Coffee Maker, the Kone brewing system and larger types of round filter pourover brewers. This filter allows more oils and a fuller bodied cup compared to coffee brewed with a paper filter. Eliminates the need for paper filters, and a quick rinse under hot water is all that is needed to clean the smooth stainless steel surface.

Close but not perfect. Paper still better and not expensive, December 25, 2012 This review is from: ABLE KONE COFFEE FILTER 3RD GENERATION Many improvements since the earlier versions. The cushioned rim makes it much easier to clean. There is still some sediment, less than a press but more likely to mix in with the coffee. You might want NOT to pour water down the sides as with a paper filter, or it spends less time soaking the coffee.
Pour into the center or onto the grind, but not onto the metal.
The filter holes are probably state of the art, but I find that water escapes much faster than with a paper filter, hence spends less time brewing.
Great as alternative to paper filters (and "greener"), but paper still creates a clearer more flavorful brew with no sediment and is not expensive.

Works but grossly overpriced, January 1, 2013 By This review is from: ABLE KONE COFFEE FILTER 3RD GENERATION This filter works as well as one would expect. I tried one out and returned it. Here is why. It is grossly overpriced and is essentially a duplicate of the Hario Woodneck in grind, technique and results, and the Woodneck can be bought together with 3 extra rags for less than the price of this filter alone. Both the Hario/rag and the Chemex/Kone require a finer grind, a tad coarser than espresso, than a Chemex/paper setup because they are more porous and the water passes through much faster. Any coarser than that and the grounds will still be foaming when you're finished, resulting in very under-extracted coffee. When pouring you must avoid both the rag material and the Kone metal because that water will bypass the grounds. Not so with the Chemex/paper because washing the paper filter adheres it to the glass walls; there is no gap. Both the Hario/rag and Chemex/Kone produce excellent coffee, a balance between paper and press, depending on the bean. The Kone is easier to care for... Read more
